My name is Ahmed Toure and I’ve been a climber for 15 years. In that time climbing has given me so much. Confidence, a sense of work ethic, friendships, travel and an indescribable feeling of accomplishment.
My start with climbing was a little unconventional. After some buddies brought me to the gym when I was 15 I was instantly hooked. I’ve never had so much fun failing in my entire life. My mom would not help me out with a membership to the gym so I would just kind of show up and hope the staff wouldn’t kick me out. Turns out they knew the whole time and just didn’t charge me which I am eternally grateful for. If they hadn’t let me climb then I’m not sure where I’d be or what I’d be doing right now. After 2 months the gym hired me to work the front desk and climbing has been one of the biggest parts of my life ever since.
Without that opportunity I wouldn’t have gotten to do any of the incredible things I’ve gotten to do over the years. I began competing and made the US speed climbing team, competed and climbed overseas, made friends from this and other countries and I currently coach an incredible group of kids.
The kids I coach inspire me. They are the reason I get up in the morning and want to be the best version of myself.
